Three of a Kind   [a songwriters-in-the-round type event]

Affiliated with the Songwriters Association of Washington

          Organized/Hosted by Philip DeStefano

February 2012 ~ Chapter 1:

"Three of a Kind" is an idea for a night of three musicians that do not usually perform together. They will be on stage at the same time, performing in a round-robin/songwriters-in-the-round sort of way. That might mean three songwriters - each performing their original tunes separately. It might mean there will be some personal twists on covering other’s material. Or, perhaps a jam on a well-know tune will happen. It could mean a mix of any type musicians.

And that is where my vision for the night comes in.

I don’t want to book this event by finding three performers that don’t know each other or with entirely different styles. In fact, I’m hoping I won’t be doing the finding at all. Instead, I hope you are reading this and are inspired to brainstorm about with whom you would like to share the stage. With that, the possibilities of the night will be up to you.

Here’s my part:

• I'll book the date with the venue, make sure a sound-system is there, help with advertising, and be there to host the event. (My goal is once a month)
When you have a trio of musicians, contact me with the names and websites. Include the other musicians on the email to me.

• This website can be used to help you find other musicians interested in “Three of a Kind”
If you are interested and do not have a second or third musician, contact me with your name and website. I’ll keep a list of “unattached” performers on this website with their website links. Interested musicians can check out the list and consider contacting each other. When you contact me, you can include a 25 word description of ideas for your night of “Three of a Kind”.

• This website can be used to build a list of tunes (audio links, chord charts, lyrics) for those trios that wish to organize some specific "tunes ideas" for their evening. If you have songs you would like to perform, and you want to share this with other performers, then send me:
1] a chord chart for the song - jpg file (scan) or Windows Word document (not docx)
2] an audio link to the song – you can find almost anything on youtube.com. If it is an "original", you can send a link or an mp3
3] if it is a "cover" and your version is different than the original version, feel free to send an mp3 of your version
4] if your chord chart does not include lyrics, consider sending a lyric document.

I will upload all the necessary files, for your song idea, to this webpage (see "SONGS & LINKS" list below).
